Post Week 1: Questions on Readings

You've been asked to post a question on the readings as your blog post. Here are some ideas to help you get started: If one of the two of the readings stands out to you, explain why that’s the case, but also post a question based on what stands out. Or, if something is confusing or problematic, what do you find confusing or problematic? With what do you agree or disagree? Be sure your question is open ended so that your colleagues can use it as a basis for discussion.

Post Week 2: Way to Rainy Mountain

The two critical texts which accompany your primary reading for the week speak to the idea of the journey and identity created on and through it. Think carefully about how Momaday constructs his personal and cultural identity. In your post, respond to one of the following:

the way in which the structure of the text and the journey interact; or

the way in which mythology shapes identity; or

the ways in which Western history, mythology, and personal journey intersect (and conflict); or

the ways in which various perspectives on culture interconnect.

Your post is due Thursday at 8 pm.

Your responses are due Sunday at 10 pm.

Post Weeks 6 & 7: The Namesake

Note: Please see that you have week 6 to read and reflect on the texts. Take your time with the novel. It is long, and it may take some time to settle in. Lahiri's writing is dense, filled with symbolism, and her characters are deeply complex. Your posts should appear during week 7.

In your post, think about how the main character in the novel compares to one other character from some primary text we've read. Posts are due Thursday of week 7 at 8 pm.
